Buying Eyeglasses Online

Buying eyeglasses online can be very tricky. Most people question whether or not they will like the quality of the eyeglasses, but are willing to take the risk for the discounted prices. There are literally millions of places on the internet that sell eyeglasses. How are you to know which ones are any good? Unfortunately, you won’t until they arrive. However, there are certain things you can look for when buying eyeglasses online in order to increase your chances of being happy with what comes in the mail.

Most web-based internet optical retailers are offering eyeglasses at a cheaper price. Since these companies are not running stores, they are able to sell the eyeglasses at just a small mark up from the wholesale price. When browsing these websites, one thing to pay attention to is the lens material. Most of the discount retailers are offering eyeglasses for very cheap, but they are only offering one lens material. This material is usually something called CR39. CR39 is a plastic, and is commonly used for manufacturing eyeglasses. Many people are very happy with CR39 lenses, however, you should know that they are not very durable. Any stress or twisting of the frames may result in the lens chipping or breaking. It is also a bit heavier and bulkier than other materials used to make lenses these days. If an optical website is offering Polycarbonate lenses at the same price as CR39, you may want to consider that. Polycarbonate is much more durable, thinner and lighter. All in all, it comes down to preference. If you’ve been happy with a certain material in the past, stick with that.

Another thing to look out for when buying eyeglasses online is the frames. You should look at frames very carefully. This is the most important factor in terms of comfort. Website pictures can often be deceiving, and you need to be careful when browsing. One great thing that some websites have are pictures that show a particular frame on a particularly shaped face. The website will allow you to select the shape closest to your face, and it will show how the frames look on a model who’s face is that shape. It is not easy to get the true sense of how a frame will look or feel when looking at it through pictures. You want to make sure you look at every detail possible. If the website allows you to, look at the frames from different angles to determine what the dimensions are like. You want to envision the frames on your head, and see if you think they will sit right.

One thing that people almost never do when buying eyeglasses online is writing customer notes. This could make all the difference! People must understand how powerful this can be. Write the optical retailer a few sentences telling them how you prefer your eyeglasses. Tell them how wide you like the nose pads adjusted. Tell them that you would like the arms of the frame heated and bent to be tighter or looser on your head. These things are all possible. Most companies will have no problem making these adjustments at no charge. Just make a polite request in the comments area of your order (or send an email with your order number), and your chances of liking what comes in the mail will be greater.
